Fashion model turned bikini fashion designer.

July 26, 2008

The ongoing success of CeaSwim shows Adams made the right decision. And while she appreciates the media attention brought on by celebrities wearing her line, she is confident that the swimwear itself is what drives her business. “A lot of companies do separates nowadays, where you can mix and match styles and prints and sizes,” she says. “But we really concentrate on fit, and we get feedback again and again that the fit of our suits is amazing.”

The opposite rule applies to small-chested women, who often think that wearing a teensy triangle top will give the illusion of a larger bust. Here, Adams recommends choosing a style that offers more coverage (and storage space for removable padding). Her suggestions include elongated halter styles with a tied or beaded centre that helps amplify the bust. CeaSwim tops ($45), bottoms ($45), and one-piece suits ($90) are available at Liquid Clothing (2050 West 4th Avenue), the Block (350 West Cordova Street), North Shore Girl

This story tells the truth about the fashion model turned bikini fashion designer.

As for trends this season, “I’m really into vintage flowers, like tablecloths and wallpaper from the early 1900s,” she says. “I’m also really into solids–pink is my favorite color, and brown looks good on everybody.” Eventually, she hopes to develop her own fabrics and prints  and move into the European market, starting with the U.K.

So you want to start a fashion business?

July 18, 2008

Entering the world of fashion is like every other business you need to be prepared, have a vision, a road map and be ready to multi-task.

The business of fashion or as I call it Fashion(nomics) is a far cry from the glamour of fashion. Every successful fashion designer knows and understands this. Tom Ford realised that fashion was a business. A very, very difficult business. “I don’t understand people who say that business and creativity is not compatible … I don’t pretend to be anything other than a commercial designer and I am proud of that.” Tommy Hilfiger pays attention to every facet of his business and every business plan and marketing strategy is minutely detailed and thought through.

Most successful designers understand that the success of their business is dependable on the “commercial aspect” of their designs. Successful designers are grounded in reality. They may have extravagant fashion shows but they realise the essence of their business is the commercialisation of their clothing where the designs can be made cost effectively and be palatable to the consumer.

Fashion models are available in plenty nowadays.

The Manekin Robotto fashion model robot

July 18, 2008

Welcome to Bikini Models and Fashion Industry Blog. We will discuss how fashion models are performing well as entrepreneurs.

The Hyogo Prefectural Institute of Technology recently presented [JP] a humanoid robot that is programmed to walk like a fashion model. The researchers claim they used materials easily available anywhere for the development of the robot, which comes with a frame made of aluminum.

The Manekin Robotto (fashion model robot) stands just 160cm tall, which might not be enough to let it run on cat walks instead of real models. Weighing a more realistic 30kg, it moves through 16 joints and motorized cylinders built into its body. The robot is able to cross and bend its legs, just as human models are supposed to do. Too bad it’s so ugly.

How fashion models are performing well as entrepreneurs?

Generally a PC is needed to control the movements but if you insert an SD card holding pre-saved instructions into the robot’s memory card slot (located in its head), it can also move independently. The Manekin Robotto can also be remote-controlled via a cell phone.
